Icy snow crunched with each step I took. Breathing hurt. The air was that cold, and I had my hands tucked up into my armpits to get them warm. I was miles away from where I’d been, miles away from anything. All I could see to the horizon was the oppressive blanket of arctic white. My coat wasn’t heavy enough for this, and apparently my ice power wasn’t going to be any help to keep me from freezing to death.

“God damn Peter Petrelli,” I swore, then licked my cracked lips. They hurt too, and the only reason I was alive was because Parkman brought me Claire. If I hadn’t finally been able to tear open her little skull, I’d have been frozen solid as a cheap pizza or Molly Walker’s daddy.

There were no landmarks for me to follow, and Peter had done something to me when he teleported me here. I couldn’t fly. I’d face planted more than a few times when I tried after waking up soaking wet and cold in the snow. None of my powers worked. The son of a bitch wasn’t even here to enjoy my misery. He’d left me to freeze in this icy hell hole.

“When I see you, I’m going to rip out your intestines and strangle you with them.” I liked that idea. It warmed me up a bit, not that, that would last long. If I could live on anger, I’d be just fine. But I can’t, and I’m so fucking hungry that I can feel my brain shutting down.

There’s not much left of the building. Homeland Security’ll need to find a new place to torture specials. A few fires are still crackling around us, while I crouch down over Sylar’s body with my hand pressed to his forehead.

“All those years manipulating people, using Parkman, and you never bothered to pick up mind control.” I clucked my tongue and grinned over at Hiro. He was a mess too, but neither one of us was in bad shape. My favorite coat was ruined, but I could get a new one.

“What should we do with him, Peter?” Hiro asked, coming closer to look down at the monster that had killed my brother and taken his place. “I could try to lose him somewhere in time, but I’d be afraid of the damage he could do there.”

“Especially now that he won’t fucking die.” I reached over to Hiro and used a healing ability to patch up a few cuts and bruises on my friend. “I hate that he got to Claire. Time’s all mixed up. I don’t remember saving her, but when your counterpart got here it all changed.”

“I know, Peter.” He sucked in his lips and gave his head a slight bow. “I always hoped that saving Claire would have saved us all. It still doesn’t make sense that Sylar blew up. It would have killed him if he didn’t get to Claire.”

That’s because he didn’t blow up. I did, but I can’t tell him that. Nikki knows, but I don’t know if she believed me. Sylar knows, but I don’t plan on letting Sleeping Beauty ever wake up.

“Yeah I don’t know why either. You’re not going to keep trying to fix it are you?” Christ I hope not. “We’ve got him now, and if you change something, he might be able to get away.”

“You won’t have to worry about that,” Hiro placed his hand on my shoulder. “I have done enough damage to our timeline. I created more chaos than I helped.”

I could feel his guilt, and I placed my hand over his. “Don’t be so hard on yourself.” I do that enough for twelve of us. I could hear sirens blaring, and the sound of heavy artillery coming down the road. “I’ll figure out what to do with him. Sounds like the Marines are here. Time for us to get out of Dodge.”

“I’m sorry about your brother, Peter,” Hiro said as he stepped away from me. “If we had only known sooner.”

“I don’t think it would’ve made a difference, Hiro.” That was a lie. If I’d have gone to see Nathan, instead of avoiding him for five years, I’d have known he was Sylar. “Parkman knew. That fat son of a bitch betrayed us even more than I thought he had. He and god damn Mohinder.”

“We will talk soon, my friend.” Hiro bowed his head to me once and blinked out of time and space.

I looked down at Sylar and pursed my lips, trying to decide what to do with him. “Guess I’m taking you with me. Not letting you wake up though, and once I know what to do with you, I’ll come visit you in there.” I tapped on his forehead and then closed my eyes to port away.

I didn’t take him back to Vegas. Nikki made it quite clear that I wasn’t to come back if I left with Hiro, and that was fine with me. Hiro and I were the only ones alive who knew Nathan wasn’t Nathan, but everyone knew the President could fly. I was more than happy to avoid any of the cluster fuck. The parasitic press would be going nuts on the story like maggots on a corpse.

Instead I took Sylar to a sailboat that my family owned. I locked him up in one of the cabins and took it out into the ocean. I sailed for without a course in mind, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the gentle rocking of the waves. I kept going for a few days, teleporting back and forth to do a little shopping. I needed supplies, and yeah, I needed some food and clean clothes too.

He came out of nowhere. His fist driving into my gut, and while I was hunched over his boot snapped into the side of my head. I went down on my hands and knees on the snow. My blood stained the snow with crimson flowers.

“Nice to see you, Peter. Did you miss me?” I asked, trying to get to my feet. My body ached from the cold, and I was too sluggish to fight back. All of my abilities were gone. “I don’t know what you did to me, you piece of shit, but this is not a fair fight.”

“Why would I have a fair fight with you, Sylar?” He smirked at me from his scarred face and laughed. “You’ll be here forever and ever. Too bad you took Claire’s power. Now you can’t even die.”

“What happened to you, Peter? You used to be so nice.”

“I grew up.”

“You blew up.”

“Asshole.” Then Peter smiled at me. “Hope you enjoy your time here, Sylar. I’ve got to go now. I won’t be back. Don’t bother to write if you have the time.”

Peter vanished into a swirl of snow, and I was alone again. There was no one to hear me scream.

I latched the last heavy manacle to his wrists, and then hooked the chain to the collar around his neck. They were made to hold specials with super strength. They’d hold Sylar if he ever woke up from the dream.

We were hundreds of miles out in the ocean, somewhere outside the regular shipping lanes, where he’d have some more private time. Using the first power I got from him, telekinesis, I picked up his chain wrapped body and sent him overboard. Then I watched as his body sank beneath the water.

“No one’ll be kissing you awake, you sick fuck.”

I waited until the last bubble broke the surface before placing my hands on the deck to set the boat on fire. When the fire was too intense for me to stand, I flew away, leaving my past and the monster behind me.
