Cult of RP - the Retcon (sorry two rants one day)

In the past two weeks I’ve had two encounters in RP with a new player who did something incredibly stupid.

Player #1 was RPing a future version of Peter Petrelli from “I am Become Death”. This player came harping at my Sylar about how he was there to keep him from being alone. I kept telling this kid that a – my Sylar isn’t canon and b – my Sylar isn’t alone. This guy would not listen. It was like he was on autopilot. He kept going on and on and on about “I’ll save you from being alone, Sylar. You can be good. I know I’ve seen it.”

I finally just stopped talking to them.

Then the same character went to see my Gabriel Gray character. Instead of the “I’m here to save you" crap he did to Sylar he comes in like he’s RPing “I am Become Death”, while Gabriel is happily working in his shop after murdering Trevor. Season 1 Gabriel and Season 3ish Peter. *head desk*

I did not break character. I kept RPing Gabriel instead of the future Gabriel/Sylar this guy thought he was. Don’t ask me where he got that idea. So when Peter got in Gabriel’s face he did what came natural. He bashed him in the head with another chunk of crystal to steal his power.

Future Peter screams "Don't hurt me in front of your son!"

Gabriel - WTF?

I didn’t want Gabriel to have Peter’s power so soon. (Sylar muse was annoyed since that’s the Holy Grail as far as he’s concerned). The player ignored everything Gabriel was doing. Still RPing in his little world, and then he started screaming that I had cheated by attacking his character.

So I wiped that out of my character’s canon. Gabriel never saw this guy. He didn’t have Peter’s power, and the Future Peter made a big stink about how I’d cheated. Thankfully the gang told him to piss off for me.

Then two weeks later, Isaac Mendez walks into the shop to say “Hi”. Once again Gabriel is like WTF? Who is this guy? Why is this junkie who smells like he’s got a power in my shop? Gabriel asked “May I help you?”

Isaac answered “Nope.”

What this tells paranoid, slightly crazy Gabriel is – you’re a junkie with a super power in my shop to rob me – so he decides to lock the door and go for noms. Isaac’s player ignores everything I do, and then goes on a crying jag that I’d cheated by attacking his character who’d left the shop (even though I’d already sealed the door with TK).

So once again, I wiped a kill and shiny new power off Gabriel’s list.

Here’s the lesson you need to learn new people. Your actions have consequences. If you can’t deal with what your actions cause, don’t come and RP with me. I am not going to break character and buddy up to you without a good reason. Gabriel is not safe. He is not fluffy. He is a murderer.

Just because he’s not Sylar yet doesn’t mean he’s going to invite you to tea.
