Part Three -

I paged through the files I’d stolen from Bennett. It was enough to make me drool. So much power, all in one convenient buffet, waiting for me to come by with my plate. It was enough to get me back to New York. I can’t count how many times I’d gone cross country while hunting for Claire. It was good to be back. Better to be back for a good reason. I mean could I really leave all those villains just waiting to escape? I was doing a good thing by taking their powers.

It wasn’t hard to break into the Company building. No one expects me to walk right into the place, and anyone who did pay attention paid fast enough. A neck snap here and there does wonders to keep your arrival a secret. I went for the big man’s office first. I owed Bob Bishop for taking my powers from me, and I was going to enjoy tearing his head open. I might not even use my regular method. It would be nice to just rip it off with my fingers like opening a can of cat food.

Slipping inside, I found him talking into a dictation machine. How special of him. I closed and locked the door behind me without a sound. Then as soon as he shut off the recorder, I spun his chair around five or six times until he was a pasty shade of green and too motion sick to call for help.

“Why hello, Bob.” I leaned on the arms of the chair and shoved it against the desk. “I’ve been looking forward to meeting the man who turned me into a killer for a long, long time.”

“I didn’t…” He started to argue, and I sealed his lips shut with a thought.

“Oh please, I know you had that girl, Elle manipulate me when I was trying to be good. Then when you couldn’t control me, you sent others to try to kill me. She came close, did you know that? If it wasn’t for Mohinder and Claire’s blood, I’d have been dead by now.”

His eyes flickered behind me, and I glanced over my shoulder to see a picture of the girl in question. She was leaning against Bob with a big grin on her face. “What is she to you, Bob? Your daughter?”

His eyes said yes.

“You sent your little girl after someone like me?” I let my mental gag shift to cover his nose too, holding him in place while he tried to suck in a breath I wouldn’t give him. “What kind of monster sends his daughter after a monster like me?”

Stealing Bishop’s power was dull when I got around to it. There was no fight left in him by the time I was done playing with him. All he did was whimper while I sliced his skull open. The power itself might come in handy when I needed cash, but until I found out if I could use it on living flesh it was just silly. But after they’d given me the virus, I owed the bald asshole.

With Bob’s access card, I got down to Level 5 without a hitch. But I wasn’t in a hurry. I wanted to wait for Elle. I knew she’d come. I’d just killed her father after all. She didn’t disappoint. Her heels clicked all the way as she raced down the cement lined hallway. I hated the way the others shouted at her. The leering looks on their faces. Didn’t they understand…Elle Bishop was mine, and I don’t like to share.
