“I know where he is? He told me. I can take you to him.” The kid was following me around his mother’s ugly house like a yappy Christmas puppy. He was worse than Peter Puptrelli and Hiro combined. Did he honestly think I’d take him with me? I had much better ways of finding my father. All I had to do was find her. Molly Walker.
“LUKE!” She bellowed trying to get up from where I had her pinned to the sofa. On principle I try not to kill normals unless they are in my way. “You are not going with this monster.”
“I’m hurt.” I put my hand over my heart and sneered at her. “He knows you hate him. He knows you blame your entire shitty life on him coming out from between your legs. But no, he’s not coming with me. I don’t need him.”
With a flick of my wrist, Luke slammed into the wall above the fireplace, knocking a good chunk of plaster loose. Blood bubbled from his lips as he tried to breathe with one too many broken ribs. “I got jack shit coming here. I didn’t get my father. I had those assholes trying to bag and tag me. But you’ve got a shiny new power that I can’t wait to try. It’ll be great on movie night when I want some popcorn, and you’d be amazed how few motel rooms have cooking facilities.”
I made her watch while I killed him. It was cruel. It was senseless, but I was in a bad mood. When I let her go, I wanted to see if she’d run to her son’s lifeless body or for the door. She went for the door. I owed it to Luke to fry her from the inside out. It was the least I could do. “Wow just like a poodle in a microwave.”
