thewatchmaker: (Gabriel is still there)

I wrapped the book with the utmost care, making sure that the tape didn’t stick to the leather cover or any of the well worn pages. It wasn’t in the best of shape, but I think that added to its charm. I hoped Scully would like it.

As I made my way to her office at Mercy Heights, I hoped the antiseptic smell of the hospital would hide the smell of the old book. I didn’t know if she was the type to open now, or if she’d want to wait until she got home.

“Dana?” I poked my head in, and she smiled at me, taking off her glasses and motioning me inside. “Happy Birthday.”

“Gabriel.” She’s the only one who calls me that anymore, and I don’t mind it at all. Although when Gabe is with me, I’m Sylar. “I didn’t know you knew.”

“What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t know your birthday?” I handed her the book. It was so big in her small hands. “You can open it now if you like.” Please.

“It would drive you crazy if I said I should bring it home, wouldn’t it?” She teased pulling out her letter opener to carefully slice the tape.

“You know me so well. Besides, it’s something that you’ll want to keep here.” I sat down and waited while she peeled off the wrapping paper.

“Gabriel. This is not an 1859 Gray’s Anatomy. It must have cost you a fortune.” She was thrilled. She could chastise me for spending so much all she wanted, but I didn’t care.

“Yes it is, and it’s now yours. It wasn’t that expensive. It’s not in the best of shape. I could have found a better copy, but I thought you’d appreciate one that was actually used by doctors and students over the years to help people.”

“Looks like you know me well too. Thank you, Gabriel.”
