The solution was simple. Claire’s pain was making me weep. At times like this I hated Arthur for teaching me how to feel other’s pain. It was easier without the empathy, when I was lost in my own fucked up emotions and no one else’s. She was curled into a ball on my sofa. The horizon was starting to pink with dawn, and I was thankful she’d finally fallen asleep. Noah had hurt her. Taken her clear bright soul and muddled it with his manipulations and molestations. I promised her that I wouldn’t kill him.
She trusted me. She was the only person the planet who did, even when she knew Gabriel had left the building and I was Sylar. But I wouldn’t betray that promise. Noah Bennet would live.
But what about my Claire? I sat on the edge of my coffee table, and brushed her thick blonde hair from her face. Tears had left trails down her cheeks. She needed to be free of Noah and his games. She needed to be where he couldn’t touch her and make her feel guilty for his crimes.
Time was the answer. Claire needed time. Time to heal. Time to be free from him.
“Hiro?” I called the annoying little man who had ruined so many of my plans. “Claire needs your help. Please come to New York. I can’t help her without you.”
Claire was gone. I pulled the pillow she’d fallen asleep on in my arms, breathing in the scent of her shampoo. I missed her, but Hiro and I had done the right thing. She could start over now, and she could be safe. “Five years, I’ll find you five years from now, Claire. Hopefully you’ll forgive me and understand.”

She was so angry. The future she found herself in wasn’t exactly a trip to Club Med. She was hunted for being special. Forced to hide and watch everyone she loved die. She spent months looking for Sylar to kick his ass for sending her there, but when she found him she couldn’t hurt him. Not when he was feeding waffles to a cute little blond haired kid. Instead she watched through the windows while he fed Mr. Muggles treats and laughed with his daughter.
“What’s the magic word, Claire?” he asked bending over her with the pot of syrup.
“Daddy!” she wrapped her little arms around his neck.
“That works.” Gabriel laughed kissing her cheek.
“You son of a bitch,” Claire whispered from her hiding place. Pressing her hands against the wall, she pushed away turning to glare at Hiro Nakamura. “Send me back!”
“I can’t Claire.” Hiro backed away from the house, his dark eyes flickering towards the window. “I…we…it wasn’t me. It was another timeline.”
“I don’t care what it was. You send me back, now!” She pulled her gun. “Hiro send me back or I’ll shoot that kid. Then Sylar will go off. Think of how many people he’ll kill.”
“All right, Claire. I’ll send you back. It’ll be after you left if I can. It’s not an exact science.”
“Just do it.” She pointed her gun through the window at little Claire Gray.

I was asleep, flat on my stomach sprawled in my bed. The dark sheets tangled over my legs. I was lonely. I missed Claire. It was harder to be good now that she was gone. Still groggy, I thought I was dreaming when I felt a weight on the edge of my bed. I was wide awake when I felt the barrel of a gun at the base of my skull.
“I should end you right now you fuck,” Claire hissed, leaning over me.
I glanced over my shoulder, surprised at her long dark hair. The outfit was different too. The softness Claire had was gone. This woman was a killer. She was beautiful, and she was threatening to kill me. “I was wondering if you’d come back.”
Bracing my hands against the mattress, I flipped around, using my power to crush the gun before it could go off. I rolled onto Claire, her leather pants rubbing against my naked thighs as I pinned her to the bed. She shifted beneath me, and I had to fight to hold her down. She was stronger than I thought she’d be, but then I wasn’t trying to hold her completely still.
“I hate you!” She screamed into my face as she tried to bring her knee up between my legs, but she was tangled in the sheets now too.
“No you don’t. You love me, and I love you.” I brushed my lips over hers, my rough beard leaving a quickly vanishing rash in its wake. My tongue traced the corner of her mouth, and I pressed my lips against hers until hers parted. Our tongues battled mirroring our wills. I let go of her hands and she twisted them into my hair pulling hard. “I missed you.”
“You’ll be lucky if I don’t kill you in your sleep,” she said, coming up for air.
“I know. But let’s see what I can do about making you forgive me.”
