Drabble:
The face that looked back at me wasn’t mine. Blue eyes that didn’t belong blinked at me as I ran my fingers over my jaw. I was losing control, forgetting who I was, and getting lost in the powers that I’d stolen.
Each time I caught my reflection in a window or a mirror, and I saw Taub, it made me nothing. If I wanted to be a nobody, I’d find a way to be Gabriel Gray again. I could put on my glasses and sweater vest, bury myself in clocks.
But I don’t like being nothing.
I am Sylar.

Drabble:
What the hell was I thinking, letting this stupid kid tag along with me while I hunted for Samson? He’s as annoying as a Christmas puppy. I watched him kill, which was no big deal to me, but it should have been to him. Luke is fucked up probably more than I am.
I should take his power, but I don’t want it. I don’t know where this stupid reluctance to kill a kid came from either. I let Molly go when I found out she wasn’t an adult, and I’ll let Luke live too, unless he keeps annoying me.

Over the roar of my scream, I could hear Elle sobbing. She sent another blast of electricity at and through me. The heat charred my clothes away in a flash, and I could smell my skin burning almost too fast for my regeneration to heal.
She was in so much pain, and I understood why. Her father was dead, and I’d killed him. She helped make me, so she felt guilty for his death.
It was the guilt that we shared that made the connection. I watched with wonder as electricity danced over my fingers. I’d copied it without killing.

Drabble:
The clocks that filled the shop were in perfect sync except one. I set them all to exactly the same time from the grandfather in the far corner to the watches in the display cases.
The off beat would drive me mad. The watches on my workbench weren’t to blame. Closing my eyes I focused on the mistake and kept them closed until I found the betrayer of time.
It was in the case under the crystal that I’d killed Brian with. I almost let it go. I didn’t want to touch it and be reminded of what I’d done.

Drabble:
It was hot, and the exhaust from the bus was making me feel sick. Sister Mary-Katherine patted me on the knee. She handed me a peppermint candy wrapped in cellophane and smiled. “The mint will make your stomach feel better.”
“Don’t want you puking, Gabe.” On the other side of me Jimmy smirked and dug his elbow into my side really hard.
“Thank you, sister,” I said as I carefully opened the candy and popped it into my mouth, doing my best to ignore Jimmy. I hated him, but Sister thought we could learn to get along. She was wrong.

Oh God.
I could taste her hatred of the thing I’d become, and it hurt down to my soul. She was so fast, and much stronger than I thought she was. My mother was a cyclone of chaos, and now she was pressed against me with that huge pair of scissors wedged between us.
Please don’t let it be true.
I felt her last breath against my cheek, and I couldn’t help but hear the second her heart stopped beating. Her blood scalded my skin as I stepped away from her to watching her body fall to the floor.
Please.

“Only you would think that was funny.” Peter gave me disapproving look number seventeen.
“It was funny. Why are you so uptight? You’re the one who thought raiding the DVD store was a good idea, just because my sense of humor is different from yours...”
“Like everything else about you,” he snorted, but I could see the hint of a smile.
“It’s a Fish Called Wanda. Everyone thinks this movie is funny.”
“Not when the dogs and the old lady die.”
“Especially, when the old lady dies.” I don’t understand him. “Now just wait until K-k-ken c-comes to k-k-kill Otto.”

Peter was broken. There wasn’t a spot on his body that wasn’t covered in blood or charred skin. He whimpered when I tried to move him, and I jerked away, afraid that I’d hurt him more.
“Shhh,” I whispered, my hands trembling because I wanted to touch him so badly. “Take regeneration from me, Peter. Take it now.”
His eyes rolled back in his head, and his breath rattled in his chest. I grabbed his hand, while tears filled my eyes. “Take the fucking power!”
“Sylar?” He sighed as he copied the power that would save his life. “Thank you.”

“Why is mommy outside?” I asked daddy.
“I told you, Gabe. Your mommy doesn’t feel good. Now be good. Stop playing with that damn car, and eat the rest of your sandwich.” Daddy frowned when he saw that my sandwich was already gone. “Just shut up.”
I turned away from him, and went back to playing with the car. He was mad, and I didn’t want him to be mad at me. He was growly, and I could feel my eyes get wet. So I started chewing on my lips to keep from crying. Daddy hated it when I cried.

Drabble:
It was easier to be the villain. Taking what you wanted, and so what if people got hurt. I’d done a lot of collateral damage over the years, but I couldn’t do that now. I had to save Emma. It’s why Peter saved me. It’s what I was destined to do to help Peter save the world, but I didn’t know how to be a hero. I stepped into the tent where Emma was playing her cello. Blood was running down the strings, and I could feel her pain. Peter believed in me. I could be a hero for him.
FIVE CATEGORY -- FOOD
Theme: #1 – Pie
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
I was mesmerized, watching as the knife cut through each delicate layer of the flakey crust. The dusting of cinnamon sugar on top sparkled in the glaring lights of the all night diner. I felt for my bitter coffee with one hand while I focused my rapt attention on the waitress as she brought my peach pie over to me. Saliva pooled in the back of my mouth.
“Been awhile since you ate, Sugar?” she asked.
“I’ve been on the road for a few days.” I took my first bite with her watching me. “Oh god, that is so good.”
Theme: #2 – Chocolate Chip Cookies
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
The cookies were warm and kind of wet when I pried open the plastic bag. The chocolate chips were melted, and they stuck to my fingers. My mommy was leaning over the car seat to talk to me, but I didn’t know what she was saying. Daddy kept looking at me in the mirror and then saying bad words to the other cars.
“We’re going home, Gabe. You’ll like your room.”
I stuffed one of the cookies in my mouth, licking the chocolate from between my missing teeth. “Are you my mommy?”
“I am now, sweetheart.”
“Now?” I didn’t understand.
Theme: #3 – Spaghetti
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
I washed my hands carefully before sinking my fingers into the cold mound of ground beef, pork and breadcrumbs in the mixing bowl. Bits of oregano and thyme clung to the back of my hands as I worked the meat together. It squished between my fingers until it was a uniform mass, and I started rolling each meatball out one by one. The sauce was simmering on the stove behind me, and it smelled so good. After I browned the meatballs, I dropped them into the sauce. I had all afternoon to make dinner. Peter was going to love it.
Theme: #4 – Chai
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
Chandra was prattling on again. I wasn’t in the mood to listen to him. Instead I sipped my tea and focused my attention on the map and the list. Every time I visited I would rush home to fill in the blanks on my own map. I had quite a few names on my copy of the list, but I needed more.
“Would you like some more chai?” I asked him as I finished my cup. He still trusted me, had no idea what I was doing to the people on his list, and he never would.
“Thank you, Gabriel.”
Theme: #5 – Escargot
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
“You’ve got to be kidding, Sylar.” Peter chuckled. “You used to stick your fingers into people’s brains, and you think escargot is gross?”
“It’s a snail.” I wrinkled my nose, and sank into my chair when I noticed the other patrons were watching. “I don’t want to get any on my tie.”
“Bullshit. You never get food on your clothes.” He was right about that. I’m a very neat diner unless we go back to when I was playing in my victims’ craniums. “For me?”
“Alright, just one.” It was slimy. I hated it, but I swallowed. “They’re all yours.”
AUTHOR'S CHOICE:
Theme: #1 – Brian’s Murder
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
“Yes, I’m sure I can help you with your problem. Dr. Suresh and I have been consulting on your case. I’ll be here all afternoon. I’ll see you later.” I set the receiver on the cradle of the rotary phone on my workbench and rubbed at the throbbing headache between my eyes. I crumpled the Post-it note with Brian Davis’ contact information into a tiny ball of white paper and waited. He didn’t live far from my shop, and when he got here, I’d find out why Chandra thought he was so special. And then…I don’t know what I’ll do.
Theme: #2 – Nathan’s Murder
Rating: R
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
If you know that you’ve lost your mind, doesn’t that mean that there’s still a tiny scrap of you that is still sane? I wanted to ask Nathan that as I held me in his arms high over the street. He wanted to drop me, but I wasn’t about to let go. Not when I still had his power to copy and some payback to dish out. Angela and Peter worshiped him, and for that he would die.
He flew higher and shook me off of him, but instead of plummeting I hovered. “Got your power. Tag, Nathan, you’re it.”
Theme: #3 – Angela’s Murder
Rating: R
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
“Did you think that I’d forgotten about you, Angela?” I asked from the shadows watching her in the reflection of her mirror. She jumped in her seat at her vanity table, her trembling hands going up to clutch at the ever present pearls at her throat.
“If you kill me, Peter will know.” She swallowed hard and took a sip from a glass of white wine. “He’ll know you haven’t changed.”
“An aneurism’s an easy thing to cause with telekinesis.” I pointed my finger at her head and focused my power. “Don’t worry about Peter. I’ll take care of him.”
Theme: #4 – Elle’s Murder
Rating: R
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
The sand clung to the wet blood that soaked my formerly white t-shirt. Elle was shivering on the wet sand, looking up at me with her blue eye wide and filled with hope. My fingers trailed over my blood and then along her forehead. I’d let Bennet kill me for her. I’d dropped my guard and let her in. The last time I’d been willing to give up everything for my mother. Then she’d turned around and tried to kill me. My mother had been a weakness, and so was Elle. Killing my mother had been an accident. This wasn’t.
Theme: #5 – Sue’s Murder
Rating: R
Spoilers: None
Warnings: None
Drabble:
Sue’s power had been easy to find. Even easier to absorb and make it mine. Her brain was still warm as I continued to work my fingers through it like I was kneading bread dough. It had been so long since I’d slaughtered someone, and it felt so good. I loved the feel of her blood and brains on my fingers.
Fuck Arthur and his use my empathy crap. I’m a killer. I like it. It’s what I was born to do. It’s my evolutionary imperative. With her ability no one would be able to lie to me ever again.
