thewatchmaker: (Bite Me)
My Sylar muse is worried. I’ve created a Damon Salvatore [livejournal.com profile] diabolicaldamon account, and a new RP set in the Vampire Diaries universe [livejournal.com profile] mysticdiariesrp. Damon isn’t like the Peters or other Gabriels. He’s from an outside fandom, and I have to pet my muse to assure him that he is safe. I will not abandon him, stop RPing him or stop writing fanfic for him.

I’m not burned out on Sylar. I’m burned out on the cesspool known as Heroes fandom. Heroes was the first fandom that I got involved in deeply, especially in the past year after getting on Twitter, a move I am starting to regret almost on a daily basis. The fun of RP turned into a shit storm of fandom wank and back stabbing that rivaled my high school days.

While I cherish the good friends I’ve made in the fandom, I also regret the emotional energy I spent trying to deal with the drama llamas and nasty little gits. I forgot why I was there. I got caught up in the fight for followers, the need for attention and the competitive nature of the mass hysteria of the black hole of bullshit – aka Twitter.

I know better now, but for the past year I have dealt with more shit than anyone should have to simply because my portrayal of Sylar was poplar. I’ve come to the conclusion that while I love Heroes, and I love Sylar. I hate Heroes fandom. I want nothing to do with the wank storm any longer.

I’m sure a great deal of Damon’s appeal is that I can start over and avoid falling into any of the same pitfalls that I did with Sylar.

In other words – I’m RPing for my pleasure not the people who happen to follow or friend my work.

RP is not a competition.

Fandom is not a competition.

It is something I want to do for fun.

It sure as shit isn’t something I do for profit. (Unless we’re talking about Jim Profit.)

My New Year began on November 1st, and I intend to enjoy this New Year without a bunch of wangst. I will enjoy myself. I will enjoy my real friends, and I will continue to feed my muses. I will do it because I like it. If you happen to like it too, that’s great. If you don’t, I really don’t give a rat’s ass. You can unfriend or unfollow.

Unlike many others, there will be no posts or tweets about how horrible it was that you unfollowed me – because I don’t care if you follow me or not. I’m here on LJ and there on Twitter for my entertainment not yours.

Sylar lives on in my ‘verses, as do Peter, Malcolm Reynolds, Wesley Wyndam-Price and Aeryn Sun. They are the canceled, I love them, and I will protect them.

And I will protect myself.

So here’s to the New Year.

Here’s to a year without drama!
