thewatchmaker: (I'm not okay)
Gabriel: I'm nervous about meeting Kade. Who wouldn't be in my situation. How does a killer ask a cop for help with a blackmailer?

Kade: Claire Bennet is a sweet girl but her cryptic messages are starting to make me antsy about this man. I check the address and find I'm at right place. "Cheesecake? Great..." I walk in and see that it's packed. Only one table as a single person. I guess that's him.

Kade: "Hi, I'm Kade. Mahogany Kade, but I'd prefer just Kade." I hated my first name. I hold out my hand to the man.

Gabriel: She's tall, pretty, but all business. Has that controlled look that cops and feds have. "I'm Gabriel Gray," I take her hand. I can't read her only objects, so my mind stays clear. "Thanks for agreeing to see me, Kade."

Kade: I lift an eyebrow, "You can thank Claire Bennet. She's very worried about you." I sit down. His eyes are intense and his manner calm, not at all like a guy needing help. Those glasses are just all wrong for his face and I wonder who picked them out, his mother or his last girlfriend.

Gabriel: "Claire’s a good friend. Closest thing to a little sister I've ever had. Did she tell you what my problem is?" I can see her taking my measure. It's only fair. I'm doing the same to her. I take a sip of my coffee. Letting her see me nervous.

Kade: "Blackmail and that the person's only called once." I narrow my eyes, Mr. Gray was only letting me see what he wanted me to see. "It's been how long since you, uh, received the damning evidence?" Claire hadn't told me what the perp had over Mr. Gray, but I was willing to bet it was bad. Very bad. His manner told of knowledge most people didn't have.

Gabriel: “It’s been two days since I got the package. There was no note. ” Now for the tricky part. “They called about 4 hours after they left the pictures. I was hoping you might have access to a lab for fingerprints.” I knew there weren’t any, but I couldn’t tell her that.

Kade: I smile, "I do have access, but we both know I won't need it." It's very subtle, his lies almost like he knows when other people are lying and knows every tale not to use. "Two days and no further word from him? It means he's confident that what he has on you is so bad, you won't think about not meeting his demands when he states them. So he's waiting."

Sylar: “It’s always better when the prey is nervous, professor.” She’s too smart for most of my bullshit. I’m not sure if I like that or not. This was a mistake, but I still may be able to salvage something from the meeting. “I’m a very powerful man. They’ll want money from me, but I don’t want to pay it. I want to find out who they are.”

Kade: I tense at the way he states, 'powerful.' I'm not sure why either, but I highly doubted it had anything to do with money. His intentions towards his blackmailer are easy enough to read, revenge, but who wouldn't want that? "You're both right, you and Claire, it's a grunt. Probably someone who sees you every time you visit Mrs. Petrelli. He's confident though which is bad. He'll either turn dangerous or stupid and you know being stupid is just as bad as dangerous."

Sylar: Taking off the glasses, I drop the nerd act. It wasn’t working anyway. “I can pay you whatever you want to help me in this endeavor. I’ve put together a list of possible suspects. I’d approach them myself, but if I went to the wrong one things might escalate. The last thing I want is for things to get out of control.”

Kade: We were both on guard and he proves that by removing those glasses, so I lean forward elbows on the table. "Why does Claire Bennet trust you, Mr. Gray?" That had been bugging me. This man had the appeal to grab any woman's attention but had stated that Claire was like family to him. If he didn't entice her, what kept her?

Sylar: “Claire and I understand each other. We were both adopted and have had issues with our pasts coming back to haunt us. I fail to see the relevance in my situation.” Leaning back I motion the waitress to bring more coffee. I look into her eyes as I take that first sip. “Be sure to order some cheesecake, Professor. It is delicious.”

Kade: "You're right, it's not relevant. I was just seeing if you'd answer me." I sigh. "I worry about my students, Mr. Gray that's all." I ignore is charming quip about the cheesecake. "Let me have the list. I can talk to Mrs. Petrelli too."

Sylar: Oh the temptation to throw Noah under the bus is almost too strong. I wonder how much Kade would worry about Claire if she knew about their fucked up relationship. But I won’t hurt Claire by saying anything. I promised her that. But I can’t resist letting her poke at Angela. I might love her, but she’s owed some uncomfortable moments at my expense. “Would you like me to tell Angela you’ll be calling or would you prefer it to be a surprise?”

Kade: I smile, "Oh I'll surprise her." You can read so much from someone who's off kilter from a surprise. "Have you visited Mrs. Petrelli since you this started? He's confident, but even a small mishap shatters that." I'm sure he knew what I meant.

Sylar: “I haven’t seen Angela since a couple of days after Mother’s Day. Her youngest son, Peter, joined us for dinner in Little Italy.” I take a bite from my cheesecake, tapping my fork against the plate lightly. It irks me that Peter invited himself along, but I am trying to get along with her sons. “What else can I tell you…I broke up with my girlfriend yesterday. Claire’s father hates me.”

Kade: I ignore the personal information, except the bit about Claire's father. I found that interesting. "You need to pay Mrs. Petrelli another visit. I'm quite sure it's someone who will see you immediately. Throw him off. You might even get another phone call." I finally wave the waitress over. Business was done and I felt like having some cheesecake.

Sylar: “You’re not curious about what’s being held over my head?” I wait until she gets her desert to ask. “I would have thought that would be your first question. Maybe your second. After do I have a lot of enemies?”

Kade: I take a bite of my cheesecake with cherries, "Oh, I am curious Mr. Gray, but it would have been pointless for me to ask because you would not tell me. I know it's bad, very bad, because I can sense you're smart enough to deal with this on your own, but you're actually scared of this guy. Claire is worried because she knows you're scared and thus she asked me to help." I quirk an eyebrow before taking another bite.

Sylar: “I’m not afraid.” I narrow my eyes at her. “Of this person whoever he is.”

Kade: I set my fork down, done. "Alright, you aren't afraid. So why can't you deal with this alone? Something tells me that's how you operate. Alone. Disconnected. It must irk you that since you're settled this guy's trying to make you run again?"

Sylar: “I’m…” I place my fork down and get up slowly. This woman is dangerous, and she doesn’t even have an ability to let her read people. She’s woefully normal. Too close. She hits too close. I don’t like it. Not one little bit. “This interview is over, professor. I’ll send you a check for your time.”

Kade: I watch, he's off guard. Antsy. Surprised. I can't help but smile. "You came to me for help Mr. Gray, if you walk out the door because I hit a nerve, then don't expect me to help." I fold my hands on the table. "I can put two and two together. Gabriel Gray recently of Queens. Only adopted son of Virginia Gray. Mysterious way she died wasn't it?"

Sylar: “My mother’s murder has nothing to do with this.” Except the picture stuffed in with the others. It wasn’t even my usual MO. That was as much a clue as the care they took to make sure I couldn’t read the package. “Are you inferring that I killed her?”

Kade: A murder? Claire Bennet in bed with a murder? I'm completely shocked, but I've had years to perfect hiding it, "Of course not Mr. Gray. I was just linking the pieces you gave me." I wave to his abandoned seat, "You told me more in that last outburst then you have since I got here." My instincts told me to get up and walk away, but I just couldn't. Not now.

Sylar: “Lady,” I say as I sit back down, glaring at her. “You haven’t begun to see me have an outburst.” Calm down. Stop it. You’re making it worse. At this rate you’re going to have to kill her, and then what will Claire think of you? “Someone is accusing me of murdering my mother. They have enough evidence to make it stick. That’s what I’m dealing with.”

Kade: "And yet something tells me you aren't afraid of that coming out." I lower my voice, "I have a feeling you could deal with that if it happened to be public knowledge, but you don't want it to come to that..." I trail off realizing that this was a whole lot more complicated then I thought.

Sylar: “So it comes down to two choices for you, professor. Do you talk to Angela Petrelli or do you go back to Ithaca with a check in your pocket for 10K? I can pay you 20K right now and another 10 if you talk to Angela.” Sending her to Angela would solve more than one problem for me. No one can make a mistake vanish like la Petrelli. Gabriel and I were going to have to have a talk about this one.

Kade: "Mr. Gray, the moment I ordered my cheesecake our business was done. I have already agreed to help you and I am a woman of my word." I'll have to talk to Claire again. I'm sure she knows everything about this man, but does he know all about her? I wasn't so sure. "You will go and see Mrs. Petrelli again? You need to shake up his confidence."

Sylar: “I’ll see Angela on my way home.” I pull out my checkbook, to pay her. I’m reminded of the arrogant rich assholes I dealt with at the shop. “See if I can rattle their cage. I’ll let you know when they call me again.”

Kade: "I don't want your money Mr. Gray, as I said. I worry about my students." I stand up grabbing my purse. "I can tell you care about Claire, at least in your own way you do. Just know that you and her see things differently. Try not to hurt her too much." I turn and head for the entrance, calling back, "Don't forget to call if you hear anything further."

Sylar: “You’ll be first on my list, professor.” I watch her leave. I’m not worried. I can find her if I need to. Disappear again if I need to too. I pull out my cell phone. “Angela, it’s Gabriel. I was wondering if you’d like to have coffee?”
