He couldn’t handle it. I knew it was only a matter of time before Gabriel went scuttling off into the corner of his mind. He tried. I’ll give him that, but agreeing to meet with Kade had been the last straw for me. I didn’t mind him playing nice. I didn’t mind him buying that loft in New York and trying to start a new life. But talking to a profiler for NYPD was moronic at best.

Kade knew what we were the minute she looked us in the eyes. I could see her taking our measure, wondering what we’d done that was so horrible. I tried to cover when I assumed control, spouting off about Virginia’s murder. I hoped it would distract her, but it didn’t. Mahogany Kade had a taste for us now, and she wouldn’t stop until she knew everything. She might be a college professor, but she’s a detective. They never stop.

Claire called in the middle of the night, just as I was settling in with a pizza from Caruso’s. I folded the shadows to get to her. I’d never let anyone see that power. It kicks the shit out of me, but it got me to California in two hours instead of eight. She was a mess when I got there. Noah had finally done the right thing and let her go. Or at least he says he has. We’ll see how that turns out if I don’t kill him for hurting her.

I told her I was Sylar. Gabriel would have cried to see the fear in her face. I promised her that I wouldn’t hurt her. She’s my friend. She’s our friend and little sister. I hope she always will be. Claire is my anchor. As long as she trusts me, I can keep the hunger in check. Keep Gabriel’s insanity at bane.

I’m supposed to have coffee with Angela today. Using her to flush out the blackmailing bastard. Kade says she’ll be talking to Angela too. I’m fine with that. Angela can get rid of her for me if she turns out to be too much of a problem.
